Wow, Hi!

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything. I’ve been playing too much of that dang game Fiesta Online. Since my last post, I’ve cancelled 3 of my WoW accounts. I’m just not having fun in there anymore. My main account is still active for my cousin to use to power level his pally and for my niece to toy around with. Ron from Destructoid sent me an invite that he received for Fiesta Online a few months back. I tried it in the first phase of closed beta and enjoyed it. I was however not ready to play in CB2 or CB3 after my character got wiped in the end of CB1.

Fiesta Online is currently in open beta and I’ve got a lvl 56 archer. The game is VERY much like Lineage 2; if you aren’t a fan of Lineage don’t try it. :)

Fiesta has one of the coolest quests I’ve ever seen in a game so far. At lvl 20 you are to complete a class quest in which you are portal-ed into a dungeon by yourself. Upon entering the dungeon you are greeted by yourself — a copy of yourself. The copy of you goes into a big speech about this and that. After her spiel, she attacks you so you have to defend yourself. After a min of fighting she runs off and you are to follow her.

As your following her you fight a small group of mobs. Then suddenly the dungeon goes black, completely black and then a laser light guides you through the rest of the dungeon providing limited light for you to spot agro-able mobs. At the end of the dungeon you face yourself again. You goal is to kill the copy of yourself. As you are fighting yourself, mobs spawn around you. I thought it was a very cool quest. I had failed it three times in closed beta and succeed on my first try in open beta.  :)

What I’ve accomplished in Fiesta so far:

  • Started a guild
  • Broken about 4 rare bows/xbows :(
  • Purchased in-game money for a game for the very first time. It was a VERY weird experience. One of the sites I purchased from called me at home to confirm my purchase. I had purchased so much that it broke their bank. :P It took them three days to get me all the cash that I had purchased.
  • Participated in an in-game event and lost
  • Fought in my first guild war ever and lost (10 vs 2 just wasn’t fair)
  • Participated in a Halloween lagfest event. It was fun and the reward was so worth the lagfest. Every member in the guild received a Halloween house!:)
  • Got reported for the first time ever and got sent to jail till the GM had time to talk to me. I’m still in the game so I guess my story was good enough. :)

The game is currently capped at 59 so only a few more levels to go.

*Today my friend Samson invited me to Sitemasher group on Facebook. I had no idea what it is so I can’t wait to get into their alpha to check it out. Here’s a description found on the Facebook group:Sitemasher is a website lifecycle management platform that allows web designers, website owners, and site content owners to collaborate on the creation, management and maintenance of sophisticated websites within an interactive, hosted (SaaS) environment.

*Kelly and I are still talking. Today we talked about “The “Reviews are Broken” Argument

*Congrats to Rosie and Nicole with their new jobs. :) Grats ladies!:)

*oh…I started beading again. This time around I’m going to try and bead a SMALL lamp shade instead of a huge chandelier like I tried 2 years ago. :) eheheh

Morning Musings

Yeah Kelly and I talk a lot, not that it’s a bad thing (Ophelea from GamersInfo.net).

This morning we talked about handling the press, SOE and Chopra/Branson’s MMO,  ComicCon and Papaya Studio’s Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey.

Kelly mentioned that she noticed something this year, more so than any other year, about ComicCon: how disabled-friendly it was. She informed me that they had 2-4 seats/row in most of the panels and they even had an ASL (no this does not stand for Age Sex Location, it stands for American Sign Language) interpreter on hand.

We went on to discuss about how we both wish more developers would look at making some of their games more disabled-friendly and talked about adding labels to game boxes that indicate how disabled-friendly it is.  In the end it is usually the consumer who has to find an alternate method to play and enjoy the game s/he likes.

Once a Princess, always a Princess :)

Kelly also mentioned to me this morning that she received an email from Lin a developer from Papaya Studios to thank her for giving their game a fair preview at E3 this year.  As soon as she said Disney Princess, I quickly went to her preview to see what it was about.

In the email that Lin sent to Kelly, she mentioned only a few editors previewed the game as a game for young children who are not old enough to read and who don’t have much patience.  Lin also mentioned that they observed, studied and even did a lot of focus testing to design the game to meet their understanding level. They even made the control system easy and intuitive for 3-5 year olds.

That’s all fine and dandy you’re probably thinking…and you’re probably wondering why I am even writing about this game. It’s not like I’m going to play it or anything. Well I am. :) I’m going to pick it up for my nieces and play it with them. Either the Wii or the PS2, I haven’t decided yet.  Being the Aunt of two young girls ages three- five, I thought Disney Princess would be perfect for Hailee and Ione- especially since they are both Princess fanatics.

Being the PR-ly person that I am, I quickly googled the game and found a good amount of coverage for the game which is great.  What I also found was that some of the ”hardcore” gaming press who covered it just made fun of it. Which makes bunny cry. :( I guess any coverage is good coverage.

As a parent, it pains me to see that these types of titles often don’t get the same lovin’ that the Halo’s and GTA’s of the world get by the gaming press (or even mainstream press). I think the following sites would have been good targets to reach out to for this product. They have an understanding of their younger audience and a good number of the sites have editors who are parents and would give Enchanted Journey a fair chance.

  • Andrew Bub’s team at Gamer Dad

  • Kaboose

  • KidZ World

  • KOL (Kids AOL)

  • Grrl Gamer

  • Killer Betties

  • Kiwi Box

  • Toon Zone

  • Edutaining Kids

(And for the record, Disney and Papaya are not clients of Relate PR)

Little helping hands

Some of the things we made over the weekend.

Biscuits stuffed with cream and covered with chocolate. I was told they were good. My brother-in-law came over and had three of them.

My niece Ione got homesick and strated to cry so my sister and I said we’d bake an apple pie and have her help to keep her mind off mom and home. It worked cos she enjoyed it a lot.

We were scared that she might cut herself with the peeler so we stuck a chopstick in the center of the applr for her to hold on to while peeling.

My Ga Dun Update

Been working on my garden over the last week. But I think Steve’s got the right idea ….relax.

We thought we had lost all our passion flowers to last years harsh winter. After I cleared out all the dead vines of the passion flower, I noticed something sneaking out of the ground.

We finally noticed a bug from the hostas.

I planted a broken planter with some flowers. It actually looks nice now rather than a broken piece of junk in the backyard

In the blue planter - I had planted some blubs back in April but I could nto remember what I had planted till my sis came over on Friday and said that they were ”Gum Lan Fa” which is Chinese for Gladiolis.

My sister-in-law gave the bird house to us and I filled in the nest with petunias.

When we bought the house, it came with six bannana plants. After the harsh winter we had 0…0 that we could see anyways. In April we saw some sprouts coming out of the ground. We now have 33 bannana tree plants.

MY JOEY BOY!!!

Crazy Little Thing Called…me..

So yeah here I go again. I just hit exhalted with Aldor last week and just started my change over to Scryer. It was a lot easier in beta. Now I have to manually do the change over going backwards from exhalted, revered, honored, friendly to neutral this time around. In beta, all you had to do was talk to whatever his name was int he center of shat and he’d make the change for you; exalted to neurtal.

So far I’ve killed about 75 dampscale basiliks and have in my pack about 47 eyeballs. I’m not going to hand any of the eyeballs in till I know I have enough to get to neurtal…which is going to be a while. :)

I’ve also for the time beign keep all the junk that you get for every basilisk kill; for example; intestines, scales

It didn’t take me too long in beta cos I wanted to hit exalted before the beta ended. Since I was able to do it in beta, I’m not in a rush to accomplish the same thing in retail.

 Here’s gl to me!

It all comes out in the end

I made Swedish pancakes for breakfast and lemon-garlic flavored spaghetti with shrimp for dinner tonight.

My Ga Dun

My first blog post on my new blog site. Some pictures of the work we’ve been doing in our garden.

A couple of before shots from when we originally viewed this house back in July 2006. When we originally saw the back yard we fell in love with it. But when we took procession of the house…everything that we saw in the backyard was gone! Guess we should have written everything in the contract. It wasn’t a biggie, at least we got to start fresh.

Before

As you can see, below are some shots of our back yard in its current state. After viewing the before and after shots, I’m loving our version of our back yard more than the previous owners setup

A dragonfly candle holder which I either bought myself or it was given to me, I can’t remember. I nailed the thing to one of the fence beams in the backyard.

I admit, I’m cheap. I bundled up all the twigs that fell from the BIG trees behind our fence with nylon string and made the following bundle of twigs.

I planted the following tall flower in the backyard today -bought at Cloverdale flea market 5 bucks!

Left is an image of our rattan patio set sitting beside a big pot of cala lilies which my mom gave to me about 3 weeks ago. She gave the lilies to me because they were almost dead. She came over with my sister 2 weeks ago and both of them were surprised at how well it was doing. It looks so lush compared to the ones she has in her yard. :)

A gathering of herbs. The dragonfly stone was given to me from my mother-in-law, a dragonfly candle holder on the right - I can’t remember where I got that and a fairy from Amy Brown collection. The fairy was recently featured in a shoot with one of Steve’s Model Mayham girls Jessica. :)
